POWER-GEN India and Central Asia

NEW FOR 2010 - THE RENEWABLE ENERGY PAVILION

To address India's need for renewable energy, the organisers of POWER-GEN India & Central Asia have launched a dedicated Renewable Energy Pavilion  and conference track for the 2010 event. This event has the support of the Ministry Of New And Renewable Energy, Government Of India.

Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources, which are renewable and sustainable. The forms/sources of renewable energy include: solar energy, hydroelectric energy, wind energy, biogas, biodegradable waste, geothermal energy and co-generation.

The consumption of non-renewable sources of energy has caused more environmental damage than any other human activity. Therefore, alternative sources of energy have become very important and relevant in today's world.

India is blessed with an abundance of sunshine, good wind, water and biomass. In an effort to diversify its power generation portfolio, India is also focusing on renewable energy and has the world's largest programme for renewable energy.

About 56 per cent of India's 1.1 billion people do not have access to electricity. And as coal deposits dip and climate change concerns rise, it is becoming increasingly untenable for India to continue relying on coal-produced power, which accounts for 40 per cent of its total greenhouse gas emissions. India's population continues to skyrocket. Thus, renewable energy will have to supplement conventional power supply.
